The release of the 2015-2016 FAFSA – that’s the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (as if you didn’t know) – is right around the corner.
On January 1, 2015, the financial aid form becomes available for the New Year.
As part of her Reach Higher education initiative, First Lady Michelle Obama is calling on you to help encourage others to complete the form and then share how you did it!
Through the FAFSA Completion Challenge Commencement Video Challenge, participants need to create a three to five minute video that highlights how your school is utilizing creative approaches to encourage students to complete their FAFSA forms.
After creating a video, you can submit entries online and share it on social media using #ReachHigher.
The Details:
• Open to U.S. students, teachers, school counselors, and administrators in grades 9-12.
• Submissions will be accepted from January 1, 2015 through March 16, 2015
• Videos must be uploaded to YouTube or Vimeo and shared on social media with #ReachHigher
• Entries must be completed and sent using the entry form by the school’s principal (or designee) along with a link to your video
To learn more, check out the FAFSA Completion Challenge Official Rules.
In addition to encouraging students to complete the FAFSA, the First Lady could send your school a special video message or speak at your commencement ceremony!
Winners will be chosen based on creativity and a school’s FAFSA completion growth rate as of March 16, 2015 (as reported by the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Federal Student Aid).
